No prob.. Used to eat here like 7 years ago a lot but haven't been since. Wasn't sure if it blew up like the rest of Denver;) thanks!
This place is a little gem owned by the coolest couple. They are so funny and enjoy talking to you about the food. I was really impressed since it was my first time eating this food. Honestly could have completely ordered all the vegan options. The food is so flavorful and it is definitely made from scratch. Will have some spices and hints of tart. So worth it!!
Have been going to this place for over 10 years and it never once has disappointed. Family owned & operated which is always great to support and the food is so incredibly delicious!! No matter where I live in the Denver Metro area, I will go out of my way to eat here as often as I can. Cash only so be prepared for that.
Delicious food, very simple setup. A sweet pair of elderly folks ran the whole place. I recommend it to anyone who likes this type of food.
I recommend the combo plates, this is the vegan one. I also recommend bringing TWO people with you, not one. It’s a huge amount of food. Come with a monstrous appetite. Smoke some cannabis first as an appetite stimulant for bonus points haha!
WOW!! Where do I even start?I order the Oaxaca drink! Delicious!!!!!!!!!!!!As appetizer we order Maryland crab cakes, and 1/2 dozen oysters!! OUTSTANDING!!!!!!We split a Caesar salad!
We've been coming here since we lived down the street. We don't get back as much as I'd like, but it's always a treat when we do. Friendly staff and always great food.
Delicious! I highly recommend! Great price and soul feeding dishes.
Worth the wait... it took at least an hour to get our food so just enjoy the beer and your company while you wait. The food was incredible and full of flavour. 32 years in this area and I definitively understand why. The food was just to die for. Im already missing the flavour and cant wait to come back next time im in town! So happy that we decided to come here.
The food here is amazing. I have been coming here for 20 years. Be prepared to wait for your food, everything is made to order. Don't show up starving, the wonderful smells of food cooking will make you hangry 😊. This is truly a Mom and Pop restaurant. Pop waits on tables and helps Mom in the kitchen. The Key Wot and Vegetarian special is my favorite!
I love this place. Don't let the humble decor fool you! The staff is friendly, the food is incredibly good. Heads up, they don't take cards so bring cash!
Hadn't eaten here since before COVID. Ordered take out today. Excellent, excellent.....We had forgotten how great the food is! Please help support this restaurant through this time and keep it open.Travelled from Morrison for the food.
Me and my kids have been coming here for years. They love it, the owner Naguzi (sp?) is so wonderful and nice. The food is very tasty, served family-style. We keep coming back
Love the food here. Super delicious Ethiopian. The Wot stew is probably my favorite dish.
Fantastic food. The lamb was out of this world. Our food did take 1:15 to come out. We did walk in on a Friday at 7 pm, and the room about 3/4 full, but it was still the longest I’ve ever waited for my food. I would say worth it, but wish I knew how long it was going to take because I was so hungry!
Food was fantastic! The owner was sweet, very nice. The wait for our food was so so so long, almost one hour!
Tried to split a combo for 3 between 2! Ton of food! My friends tiney, tiny baby tummy could not handle it :(. Make sure you are with fellow big strong man if you are to take on this challenge!
One of the best meals (unexpectedly) I have ever had. Cute little owner- you can feel his love in every bite. They gave my baby their calculator, which became his favorite toy.
OMG. 2 years in Denver and I finally found you. Truly best Ethiopian in town we have tried so far. There other good ones, but not good enough to stick with. At The Ethiopian Restaurant, i would say we can stop looking. This is the place. Wot stew is spicy. The sides are all delicious, both gomen’s, mesir wot was also really nice. Injera is tart and soft. Thank you for being around so long. Since 1985 and going strong because they are the best!!!As for negative reviews due to slow service. Tell me which Ethiopian place in town doesnt have a long wait. Enjoy your Meta or coffee and your companions. This is worth waiting for.
Terrible customer service and extremely rude!! They gave my order away and was extremely rude about it. Don’t recommend and will never go again
Delicious authentic Ethiopian food, felt like a real homely place. Love eating family style. We shared a 2 veg plates and 2 chicken plates among 3 people and had leftovers.
Food is rich, delicious, authentic and modestly-priced. Two things, however (not negatives, you just need to know ahead of time): #1, they are CASH ONLY, and #2, it is not a fast meal. Expect 45 minutes between you order and delivery of the food to your table. Have a beer, relax and anticipate the meal to come.
The restaurant looks creepy from outside but once you get inside you feel it is a comfortable place. I think this place would be good to someone who wants to get a break of life and have a new experience other than the conventional restaurants.
I think that we have tried 10 to 12 different Ethiopian restaurants in and around Denver. This one is by far and away our favorite. The food is just so good. The food takes a while, so be prepared to wait, but they often have some pretty good Ethiopian beers there to drink while you're waiting. Honestly, the guy that runs this place has been running it since longer than I've been alive, and we just keep going back because it's amazing.
This was my first time eating at this location and trying this style of cuisine. I was thoroughly impressed! Everything tasted really good! The only downside was the wait time to get our food (about an hour or so), but it was well worth the wait. I would absolutely come back to this place in the future.
Tasty, simple meals including many Vegetarian selections
Amazing! Looks a little sketchy on the outside, but you go in and it's SO cute and homey. The owners and staff were very sweet and the food was absolutely delicious!
Consistently amazing for 25 years; take your time, soak it all in. Rich savory dishes, some spicy options, good vegetarians and carnivores alike.
Honestly terrible customer service. Especially when it comes to ordering for pick up
Dont judge a book by its cover. Unassuming from the outside (and the inside too), this place has fantastic food and ridiculous portions. Yes, it will take a while to get your dish in the same way it is the case at most other Ethiopian restaurants, BUT the wait is worth it. I have tried a few Ethiopian places in town and for my money this is the best one by FAR!!
This restaurant is amazing! Family owned and run for over 35 years. #7 has been a craving of mine through three pregnancies. Great experience to bring friends to branch out. No silverware and cash only.
I love this restaurant with all my heart. I've been going here since I was a kid and I could never get sick of the food. It's beautifully made and presented in a homey environment. When the food comes out the owners present the dish right in front of you. They give detailed descriptions of everything you've ordered. This cute amazing restaurant is something that I'll reccomend to everyone no matter what. So I reccomend you go try it and eat some delicious food!
The food was just unbelievable. I couldn't stop moaning with pleasure. We shared mild chicken, mild beef with potatoes, and the vegetarian special, with extra bread. It was more than enough for two adults and a hungry four year old. When we walked in we were greeted warmly, and led to our table. The decor is simple, the food takes a little longer than usual, but not too long. I love Ethiopian food, but this was a real treat! The best spongy bread I've ever had! If I lived here, this would be my favorite dinner spot.
YASSSS This place is absolutely amazing!! Looks kind of sketchy, but the food is incredible and reasonably priced.
We have been going to this restaurant for 35 years now. Same owner and he is the best guy you could know. Great food that you can't stop eating you walk out so full you're miserable. But it is well worth it.
Best Ethiopian food I've had in Denver! Takes a little while to get your food, but the wait is well worth it!
Kind of a hole in the wall serving copious amounts of the best Ethiopian food Denver has to offer. Just amazingly good.
I love this place! The food quality is fantastic. The wait is worth it!
Came from Michigan for a business but I have found The Ethiopian Restaurant to have very good and tasty food! I highly recommend it!
10/10 delicious. Meals cooked to order so be ready to wait, but totally worth it!
So yummy!! Cash only, so worth it! The owner pours his heart into his food. Tried Ethiopian beer! Food comes in a huge bowl/dish and you eat without hands. Sop up the food between thin pancakes.
My favorite Ethiopian spot in Denver. It's starting to get too much recognition though. Great food. Hole in the wall place. Eat with your hands.
The best Ethiopian in Denver! Family run restaurant and they are so warm and welcoming. I would recommend this to everyone I know!
Don't go in here- horrible old man who owns the place is just not meant for the hospitality industry.I went in there jonesing for some injera- the prices were really high, the portions very scant and there was a complete lack of seasoning. The injera was made from a mixture of Teff and wheat flour- not entirely authentic. The food arrived in 40 minutes- the lentils were just boiled-with some salt- no seasoning, the so called vegetables were boiled within and inch of their lives- ever eaten mushy cabbage? To add insult to injury, the old man told me that he would charge me for a glass of tap water!I don't know how this horrible place stays in business- go to any other Ethiopian restaurant and they are good, unfailingly nice and hospitable. This one tho', is a blight. Don't waste your money like I did.
We have eaten at quite a few Ethiopian places in demver, but this is becoming our favorite for a few reasons. 1. The food is excellent. 2. The owner is adorable. He makes all of the food himself when you order it. 3. The restaurant itself is a hole in the wall type place that makes you feel comfortable and welcome. It is cash only, so be prepared for that, but totally worth it and worth the wait for the food!!
The restaurant is small and the staff was limited to the owners the night we went (a Tuesday evening) so we did wait a little while for our food, but it was well worth it. We got the vegetarian combination dinner (3) and it was very good. Variety, quality and value all excellent.
Absolutely the best Ethiopian food in the Denver metro area. A little "hole-in-the-wall" place; get there when they open, or be prepared to wait-& each table's order is prepared and served in the order it was received. A small (but excellent) kitchen.
Awesome restaurant run by its owners. The food is amazing! Also, try the honey ethiopian wine. Jut keep in mind that they take only cash and the food takes a while. We waited for 40min.
They has the best food on earth! I hope they stay open
The absolute best Ethiopian restaurant anywhere in the Denver metro area. I've tried the others and this is hands-down the best food. The service can be a bit slow, so don't go when you're in a rush to get in and out. However, the owners are exceptionally friendly and can easily accommodate large groups if you call ahead. The place is small and looks like a hole-in-the-wall, but it's worth the visit. The injera is out of this world as is the rest of the food. I would go there every day if I could! They get an A+ score from the Health Dept and regularly win Best of Denver. Go check them out! Also note that they only take cash, so be prepared! There is an ATM across the street though.
Delicious and unique cuisine. Feels very authentic. A great meal for people looking to try something new. We got the shared platter, the chile powder was strong but not overbearing. The lamb was definitely the best. Bring cash because credit cards are not accepted.
